Here Here Marty. I especially agree that the ERLC is a thing of the past, and has no relevance especially to the gospel. I also have the same concerns that Jack Elam has raised.

Marty,

Great ideas here. I especially appreciate your comment that cooperation not be viewed primarily in terms of dollars given. Though I have my concerns about low CP % giving pastors leading a movement dependent upon the CP for its future, I think we only feel these tensions because we have reduced cooperation to the level of money and then we use it as a stick to measure with.

I like these suggestions especially the one where we kiss the ERLC goodbye.

I support the concept of the GCR. I hope that the Task Force is bold and that they do a great job. I am pulling for them. I do hope that they take into account the views of others and recognize that the people working in the system right now are doing what Southern Baptists have asked them to do - run an ineffective, antiquated system. In other words, people are not the enemy here and I hope that we keep that in mind.

These recommendations that Marty has listed would change a great deal. There are other things that would also be helpful that we have not thought of. I am confident the the GCRTF will give us a lot to think about. I am just hoping that they don't back up.

If I was asked (although I won't be), I would vote on your ideas. They're drastic and what is needed. I don't expect anything much from the GCRTF...the changes we need are dramatic and most on the task force benefit by things staying as they are.

So you're the person who read this article today!

I agree with your thoughts. Technology has done away with the need for the massive meetings and associated costs.

Marty,

All of your recommendations resonate well with me. I especially applaud the ones on downsizing, eliminating the effectively meaningless resolutions from yearly convention meetings, and seeking alternative means of providing a sound theological education. I know it's been discussed in many different venues already, but a move toward on-line voting and participation in the annual meeting would also open up a much broader participation of small church pastors and laity (though I don't like the term laity).
